About the department
The Department of Physics was established in the year 1966, offering Physics as major to the degree students and as an allied to the other major students, very next year to the year of inception of the college. Department has started offering B.Sc. Physics course in Shift II from 2006. From the academic year 2012-2013, it has elevated to Post Graduate Department of Physics by offering M.Sc. Physics program.
From the humble beginning, the Department has grown in leaps and bounds to stand tall today by offering B.Sc. & M.Sc. programs in Physics. During an academic year, it caters the academic needs of more than 450 students specializing in Physics, and around 500 students through allied courses.
At Present, the PG Department of Physics has 11 academic facilitators who aid the students to understand the nuances of Physics. Of them, 06 are Regular Professors and 05 are Guest-Lecturers. The 06 Regular Teachers are Ph.D. holders with specialization in diverse areas of Physics. The Department has Two regular Lab Attenders and a Training Instructor.
There are about 1000 books in 600 different titles in the Department library., quenching the knowledge thirst of the faculty and the students. The department strongly encourages the students to experience Physics through experiments with its very well equipped laboratories for conducting all its academic programmes. There are 2 laboratories for UG and 2 for PG with research equipments. Well-equipped, intellectually stimulating and supportive vicinity is provided by the Department for a sound and cheerful education in physics at UG and PG levels.
